Perhaps the Most Important Rule

One In One Out

Once you have purged items in your cupboards, drawers, closets, wherever you may need to pare down, there is one essential rule in maintaining that hard-earned success;

The “One-In, One-Out” Rule

Purging feels fabulous once you’ve gone through it. You’ve truly accomplished something and you can actually see the results. But keeping it that way is simply a numbers game.

If we’re talking about your closet you’ve just pared down, and you continued on buying  just one outfit a month. At the end of the year you potentially have an additional 36 items hanging in your closet.  You’ve likely just undid all the progress you made and maybe lost even more space in your closet.

However if you buy one outfit a month, and you donate an outfit from your closet for each purchased, which you no longer wear as often (and like less than your new awesome purchase), you’ll be exactly where you started that very day you decided to purge those items in your closet to give yourself some breathing room.

When engaging this new life-changing principle, be sure that you make the one-in, one-out exchange right away. Don’t wait, don’t assume you’ll get to it, you likely won’t (I did the learning the hard way on that for you, and I consider myself disciplined 😮 ).  But don’t be afraid of that, it’s extremely rewarding, I promise.

Watch how beautiful your spaces can stay when you practice this very important rule. I’m dying to hear how you do!

  1. Stopping by from SITS girls! I love the “one in, one out” rule. Organization can be truly life altering not to sound overly dramatic. Added you on Bloglovin and look forward to reading more!

    • Oh fantastic! Thanks Lori 🙂 And I agree with you; once you go through it, it’s actually life changing. The amount o of peace you get from it. It’s great!
