Create More Closet Space

create room in your closet with this

If you were around for my hanger post recently, you know that I’m a big fan of maximizing as much space as possible. Most of us are not the owners of lavishly structured 600 square foot walk in closets (for those of you who ARE, can I come play at your house?! ), so it’s fantastic when we can find inexpensive (or no expense) ways to maximize on what we do have.

Well looky here!

POP CAN CREATES SPACE

What’s that you say? Beause clearly, popcan, you’re talking to me…

Watch the magic of this little aluminum gem unfold:

tabhoading

Pop can tabs are going to be the hero of the day for your closet space-finding exploration.  Pop off some pop can tabs and make sure the little tab in the center is either removed or bent all the way back.

POP CAN tab

Once you have what you’d like to get started with, go ahead and slip one of these little sweeties over your hanger hook.

tab hooked on

Sure, it’s discreet, but can it hold any weight? Why yes, yes it can…

hook a couple

The tabs actually are worthy of more than recycling for a hot $.05 deposit (which you still get on your cans, of course, even if the tab has been removed-so party on!), they hold several hangers. The only limitation on amount I’ve found so far is how long it takes before my clothes are touching the bottom of the closet.

This method is a very flat way to layer your hanging, as opposed to some bulkier options that don’t sit flat against the clothes. Here’s a bit of a profile view:

don't take up much room

I typically store my often-paired items together, and sometimes I just stack up whatever I feel like (always within the same color though because of what I mentioned here) and it adds a ton of space. If I had to estimate, I’d say it affords me about 25% more room in closet, on TOP of the thin velvet hangers I use.

Try it out, hang it up, let me know how it works out for you!

Cheers dears!

    • Right?! You now have an argument for shopping for that extra couple items, should you choose to exercise that option 🙂 Glad you liked it!

  2. Funny how majority of the human race doesn’t see the most simple solution right in front of their face. But thankfully the world has bloggers like you to show us these genius ideas. I don’t drink anything out of a can though : ( I’m going to look into buying tabs.

    • High five to you on the no-can protocol! It’s always better to avoid those of you can. If you can’t find tabs, ask a friend, neighbor or family member to collect their next 24-pack(of any drink) worth of tabs and send them your way:) thanks so much for the move! It’s great to have you here:)

  3. Yep, I was right! I knew I was gonna love this blog the minute I read your description!! Following! Thanks for the great tips, can’t wait to hear more! My closet is always a hot mess and I drink tons of soda! Match made in heaven. 🙂
